CD - Fats Domino: I Found My Thrill

| | Comments (0)

Another in the series of reissues from the Blue Orchid label, this is a double CD (68 tracks) of digitally remastered Domino recordings from 1949 through to 1957. As usual the packaging is excellent, good liner notes and details of the recording sessions, where known.

Those who are familiar with Fats' more successful recordings will welcome the opportunity to further explore his back catalogue. Most will have heard 'the Fat Man', a million seller from 1949, but there are any number of equally excellent tracks the first two to three years of his Fats' recording career that are definitely worth collecting - all before his breakthrough into the pop charts with the 1955 release 'Ain't That A Shame'. 'Goin' Home', 'Goin' To The River' (both million sellers) and ' 'Please Don't Leave Me' are all classic Domino.

Because this particular anthology stretches until 1957, many of his best loved and most popular numbers are also included. 'Blue Monday', 'Poor Me', 'I'm In Love', 'My Blue Heaven', 'Blueberry Hill, 'I'm Walkin' and 'When My Dreamboat' are all to be found on the second CD.

However, this is clearly not a replacement for a comprehensive collection of all of Domino's more popular material. If you've got a best of already and you want to explore a little deeper, then this is a reasonable place to start, although the remastering doesn't seem to be quite as sharp as is usually the case with Blue Orchid releases. If you're looking for a primer or anthology of the great man's best loved material, there are many compilations around that will do that particular job much better.
