The Shades site is now set up to accept comments on entries (from registered users) in the following categories - Artists; Books; Labels; Reviews; Editorials. Registered users can also create their own entries on The Shades Blog (see Left hand Column below)

History
A brief and highly personal view of the origins and development of R&B - maybe a bit dry but then history often is! Plenty of links to some of the artists to be found elsewhere on the site
Artists
Biographies and recommendations of many of the greats in the blues, soul and R&B field. As a Primer, we started by including those artists we felt were best equipped to bring the music to a new audience but it's gone way beyond that now. Always a starter recommendation included and a chance to buy!
Books
Book recommendations and reviews promoting some of the finest writing stimulated by a love of blues and soul music (and the cultures from which it developed)
Labels
Just a few of the labels and / or studios that have been pivotal in the development of R&B. Hope to add a few more over time
Reviews
Concert reviews, album and DVD appraisals and even the occasional festival
Editorials
General ramblings and musings with an R&B theme. Included is a special series of "Mod Memories" from one Steve Bellamy (like the Primer, a native of Sheffield, England)
