A Bit Quiet?
Noticed that the Shades site hasn't been updated that often recently - hope the webmaster's OK!
Always enjoyed the artist biographies and the reviews section, both of which have been a bit quiet for a few months. Are we going to see any more content soon. Last time this happened the site went through a major revamp. I'd rather have more info than another redesign :-)

Hi westgrandbaby
You're right, not much activity recently. Combination of too much to do at work, a bit of illness, some personal stuff - you name it, the excuses just keep on coming :-)
Hopefully, you'll see some updates soon. I have been working on embedding some YouTube video on to the artists pages - wherever I've found something reasonable you'll find it on the relevant artist bio page. I'll try and get some more bios and reviews on the site soon - if anyone has any of their own, please feel free to send them through, all contributions gratefully received.
Just a gentle reminder - hopefully you've run out of excuses by now :-)
More than hapy to offer up some contributions if that will help.....
Finally - after any number of excuses, including a recent database and website corruption, the Primer has been updated.
Added some video (courtesy of YouTube) to the Artists pages - always trying to make sure there are no copyright infringements. Where I can't find suitable video, I've dropped in a little bit of audio as a poor substitute :-)
Mitty Collier has been added to the Artist pages, and there are reviews of CDs by B.B. King, Elvin Bishop and Chris Farlowe.
Hopefully, might be back on a reasonably frequent update programme from now on!
Good to have you back.....and Mitty Collier is a truly great singer. I've got the compilation CD to which you refer in the bio. I'd only differ in that I do think there are a couple of genuinely weaker tracks on there which keeps it from being completely stellar.
There are also at least two 'I Had A Man' derivatives but, perversely, they are great in their own right so what the hell:-)
Mitty started out in and went back to gospel - ever thought of adding a few gospel greats to the site to showcase the origins of so much of the soul and R&B; that followed?
Thanks for the feedback westgrandbaby
For me to pull together a few gospel greats would probably be a bridge too far. It's not really my sphere of expertise (some would say neither is R&B;!!) and so I would struggle to add anything to entries that could be found on sites like allmusic.com.
At least when I recommend a recording as a starter for a particular artist in the biography section, I can do so with at least the authority of owning it or, in the case of a compilation, its predecessor - in other words it's a genuine and honest recommendation based on personal experience. If I added a few gospel artists it by and large wouldn't be - I have a few gospel recordings in my collection but that's about it. Stick to what you know, as my old man used to say :-)
