Hello everyone, and welcome to the twenty-third Movinmusic Blues Agency Newsletter. This newsletter contains information about:

James Hunter New CD Release
Diana Braithwaite and her Band UK/French Dates
New Blues Club in St Albans
Matt Shcofield Dates

** James Hunter New CD Release **

"James Hunter is one of the best voices, and best kept secrets, in British R&B and Soul. Check him out." - Van Morrison

The very latest James Hunter CD "People Gonna Talk" is now available to order via Rounder Records.

The fourteen songs on 'People Gonna Talk' were all written by Hunter. From the tight & right ska shuffle of the album's title track (with gorgeous string quartet accompaniment), to the locomotive groove of "Talkin' 'Bout My Love" to the hushed ballad "Mollena" which rests on a simple acoustic guitar/saxophone melody bed, the caliber of Hunter's compositions leave the listener stumped as to how this singular artist has gone undiscovered up to now.

** Diana Braithwaite and her Band UK/French Dates **

March will see the return to the UK of Diana Braithwaite for a short tour with her band:

"Powerful, soulful Canadian blues singer, Diana Braithwaite returns to the UK this year with her Big City Blues Band. Dubbed "Canada's National Treasure", Diana Braithwaite's voice sears through time, taking audiences back to where the blues began. Her performances are memorable and captivate audiences all over the world. With her powerful voice, and unique uplifting stage show, her performances shouldn't be missed".

Quote:  "The Live Box at the Drum has become synonymous with pioneering live jazz, poetry and acoustic Hip Hop in Birmingham. For close to 6 years it has been a premier jam session spot for regional musicians as well as attracting larger name national and international artists; and has consistently broken down boundaries between ‘high art’ and ‘street culture.’ The Drum is based in the Aston area of Birmingham and is the national centre for Black British arts and culture - Europe's first arts centre dedicated to developing and promoting African, Caribbean and Asian arts and culture.

The outstanding quality of the music stood out: sustaining the event, and keeping the demand growing from audiences and jazz musicians across the city.

The event itself has retained its own signature style of delivery. Every Sunday evening, starting with a performance of rehearsed material from the main artist, it then opens up to members of the audience to participate in the jam session. "

** New Blues Club in St Albans **

Movinmusic is pleased to help announce the creation of a new blues club in St Albans.  Here's the press release:

"The Blues scene in the UK and Europe is increasingly active and covers a wide variety of styles of music from acoustic solo acts, Soul, Gospel, Rhythm’n’Blues to Swing, Heavy Rock and beyond – all of which draw on the Blues as an influence.

Bearing in mind this broad church approach to the modern Blues scene, STARTS and Bob Ayre are proud to present Roots’n’Blues featuring The Guy Tortora Band on Saturday 25th March at The Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans. Guy Tortora, who hails from Pasadena, California, is a songwriter, vocalist and guitar player of fine and subtle ability who combines the varied elements of American music – Jazz, Folk, Blues and Country.

The Guy Tortora Band has been carving out a singular niche on the Roots’n’Blues scene in the UK and Europe, from small acoustic stages to Folk and Blues Festivals. His musical adventures have been described as ‘postcards from a personal Storyville, delivered with conviction and passion’. His guitar work has been compared at times to other American players including the well-known likes of Ry Cooder and J J Cale. He has appeared on the same stage as artists such as Peter Green and John Mayall.

This is what the press has to say:  Paul Jones, BBC Radio: ‘…very, very good stuff! Excellent songwriting – very subtle, beautiful and lovely slide guitar’, http://www.feenstra.co.uk ‘made you think Ry Cooder had just entered the building’, Blues & Rhythm magazine – The Gospel Truth: ‘Bold & sensitive, full of grace and feeling’.

Tickets £12.50 (concessions £10) available from the Maltings Box Office, 01727 844222. St Albans, AL1 3HL, Saturday 25th March, 2006. Doors open 7.45pm for 8.30pm start. More about the Guy Tortora Band on: http://www.guytortora.com or about the event and STARTS http://www.starts.org.uk

Future gigs will include Movinmusic artists - The Cadillac Kings now booked to play St Albans on the 3rd June.

** Matt Schofield Dates **

March will be a busy month for the Matt Schofield Trio:

Back in the Summer, Guitarist Magazine featured nine guitarists or bands that represent the future of the Blues. All are American, except for one(yup, you've guessed it - Matt Schofield).

http://www.movinmusic.co.uk/matt_schofield_trio/images/matt_schofield_bw.jpg

The LA Daily News (Los Angeles) in a rare review of a British Blues artist, said: "we've been swamped with pretty-boy blues pretenders for years, but the UK's Schofield is head and shoulders above that herd." "One of the brightest hopes we have today. I think it's time he became a big star," - Paul Jones (BBC R2) in his 'pick of 2005' show broadcast in December. And on the subject of radio broadcasts, Matt's latest album has been play listed on most of the USA's leading Blues radio shows including XM Satellite Radio, which is fast becoming North America's most influential radio station and where Matt currently stands at no.5 in their Blues top 25 chart.

"Even this early in his career, Schofield is the entire package: a singer with range and soul, and a guitarist who delivers with devastating tone and superb dynamics." Blues Revue, USA. If you're looking for a benchmark review in the world of Blues then Blues Revue magazine is it.

"His feel for the music is incredible." Vintage Guitar, USA.
