The Blue Boards / Main Forums / General R&B; Chat / New Anthony Hamilton Record
I've been a huge Anthony Hamilton fan since his debut and i've heard a ton of rumors surrounding his new album - Soulife - and it's finally upon us - i did some research on the net and found out it comes out June 28th - The songs on this album were written before his debut but the album never was released because the label went under.
You can find more info on the release here:

Does anyone else know anything about this CD? I'm desperately trying to hit all the boards and find out more about Soulife!

Read the Shades review, heard the album. I think the Shades site is being a little charitable. Definitely a talent yes, but these tracks are largely dull and repetetive. I know this is modern soul with a nod to the past and I have no probs with that on its own terms, we can't for ever live in the past
No excuse for weak material however, and with one or two exceptions, the writing here just isn't very strong.

Speaking of not living in the past, anyone heard the Dan Penn produced Bobby Purify CD "Better To Have It". Mostly written by Penn and with backing musicians including  R&B greart such Spooner Oldham, David Hood and Jimmie Johnson as well as Penn himself. The result is a stunningly authentic '60s soul album, recorded in Nashville in the 21st century! It happened for Solomon Burke, why not Bobby??. Who says you can't go back!!
